I’ve had to adjust my tastes to the slightly different ice creams available in the UK. Without my beloved fudgesicles and firecrackers, I’ve come to love the more dairy-based Cornettos and Magnums (reminiscent to me of the chocolate covered Mickey Mouse bars I enjoyed as a child.) So when I found out that Magnum was doing their own pop up in Selfridges which would allow you to create the Magnum of your choice? That was my Saturday afternoon, right there.
As you can see, the Magnums cost £4.50 each, and the creation is nothing but options. The queue was quite long – but we were there on a sunny Saturday afternoon, and the hordes of shopping crowds couldn’t resist a designer ice cream.
Starting with your base (either the basic vanilla or the chocolate and caramel centre used in Magnum Infinity), you’re then given a choice of white, milk or dark chocolate for the base of the chocolate. I considered white (white over caramel? How often do you get to try that?, but ultimately went with the milk.
After that, you have a wide variety of options for toppings. I went for a combination of taste and look – with sea salt, some golden flakes, and merengue pieces. I wouldn’t recommend the sea salt (just a bit too much was added, making this on the side of “I need water! rather than deliciously sweet-salty), but I loved the crunch of the merengue.
They finished it with a white chocolate drizzle and a chocolate logo. I’d definitely recommend this to anyone who has ever wanted their own ice cream, exactly the way they like it! Beardy Fiance and I had a great time eating our massive ice creams!
The Magnum bar at Selfridges is open until the 30th of August
