Giveaway: Blogiversary and Beardy Engagement

A few weeks ago, I received an email from WordPress telling me that I’ve been blogging for over a year – which means that it’s my first blogiversary!  It’s a crazy feeling – it feels both like I just started blogging and like I’ve been doing it forever.  My blog has been one of the best things in my life, an excuse to eat at random places and way to find other bloggers who love food (and talking about food.)

And of course, I could not have done it without all of you readers – whether it’s receiving a “like” on a post or a tweet telling me you like my blog – it’s great to know that other people love food and love talking about baking!

My other big news is that Beardy Boyfriend is now Beardy Fiance – he asked me to marry him while we were on the beach in North Carolina – it’s still at the point where it’s really exciting – the first question people seem to want to ask is when and where we’re getting married.  I’m a little nervous about starting to wade into venues.  On the other hand, it’s nice to know that I’ll be marrying my best dishwasher and decorator extraordinaire!

One of the things Beardy Fiance has become a lot better at since we started dating is cooking.  He never really cooked before we started going out and it’s definitely been a learning curve for him (in fact, one of the nicest things he’s done for me is learn to cook a lot of American recipes, because he knows how homesick I get.)

The mint chocolate chip pancake recipe from Breakfast for Dinner is a favourite – he makes it for me when I’m sick, when I’m homesick or when I need a cheer-up.  As a result, I’m giving one lucky reader in the UK and Ireland a chance to win a copy.

To enter, leave a comment telling me what food your friends and family make when you’re feeling rubbish.

For additional entries, like BakingBeardy on Facebook or Twitter – be sure to leave me a comment letting me know you have!

First and foremost congratulations on your engagement! It’s a very exciting time!
If I get home sick my pals will buy me cheese or croissants (you can probably guess where I’m from now….)The most resourceful once managed to source some feuilletes d’escargots.
    Pure bliss!

We tend to make mac and cheese as comfort food. Or bake some chocolate chip cookies.

  3. In the wintertime, my favourite comfort food would probably be a rich beef stew with a thick, glossy gravy and a little pile of mash & peas on the side. However, if I am responsible for making the food when I’m having an off day, it will invariably be toast with butter 🙂

  6. First things first: congratulations on your engagement! And well done on getting Beardy Fiancé to start to cook: there’s a lesson or two you could probably teach me on this 🙂

My partner doesn’t cook much, but always helps me out in the kitchen, which I equally appreciate. When I’m having a rubbish day, he makes sure there’s cake around by the time I get home – guaranteed to lift my mood!

  7. The last time I was (monstrously) under the weather (on vacation no less!), my husband made chicken soup from scratch in our inn’s communal kitchen. It was fairly awe-inspiring, and certainly solidified why we were married! On that note, congratulations on the engagement. We’re living in North Carolina at the moment — the beaches *are* magical. Cheers!

  8. We make cookies. Nothing comforts us more than cookies and milk.

  10. Well I never get anything made for me when I’m sad or homesick but when I’m ill himself whips up a gorgeous chicken soup, cream and all he almost goes as far as to dunk my bread in the soup for me….almost
